The second At Home in Harrison gathering was held at the home of Aster Lee on Saturday, August 25. Residents of north Minneapolis came together, ate home-cooked Ethiopian food, and learned more about individual experiences of home. Redeemer’s artist organizers prepared stories and art to kickstart this conversation. Amoke Kubat invited attendees to tell stories about living in north Minneapolis prompted by an object in a box, Nestor Garcia Olague wrote poems about some of his first times meeting people in the Harrison neighborhood, and ShaVunda Brown read from interviews with other Harrison residents about what home means to them, highlighting common threads in each person’s stories.
