Over the summer, Redeemer welcomed 19 high school STEP-UP interns to our community where they had the opportunity to learn new skills, develop as leaders, and build new relationships, all while earning a paycheck. Through their work at the coffee shop, both barista interns will both go on to work at Venture North and Starbucks, respectively. Our seven bike shop interns worked to refurbish more than 150 bikes and even helped deliver some to our community. A few of them will be returning as employed mechanics. Our Health Commons intern was so inspired by her summer learning how to take blood pressure, give massages, and promote wellness that she is hoping to go into the health professions. The Community Leadership interns spent the summer learning about different topics that impact North Minneapolis and connecting with local leaders. They felt that their work mentoring younger children in Redeemer’s summer “Kids in Action” program was especially important. We were sad the interns leave Redeemer, but hope they left us, not only with an employable skills, but a felt-sense of their potential as leaders.
