Since August, Venture North has held three Bike Camps for youth in the greater North community. During the course of these one-day events, youth were given a free refurbished bike, helmet and lock. They then spent the day doing different games and activities that helped them become better riders. They also learned the different parts of the bike as well as how to change a flat, how to properly unlock and lock their bike and other important bike maintenance skills. During the most recent bike camp on October 8th, the youth participated in a bike maze that helped them with agility and also got to enjoy pizza from the bread oven behind Redeemer. This summer, Venture North additionally offered “Kids Open Shop” for youth between ages 10 to 14. After committing to come into the shop five times to learn basic bike maintenance and repair skills, these youth also got to take home a free bike, helmet and lock. With the help of bike donations from the community as well as Venture North staff and volunteers, Venture North was able give out over 60 free bikes to young people between August and October of this year alone.
